If you have not heard about the mysterious cubes from KBL megaSun yet, you will probably get loud about them soon. Why? About this in a moment, but first let's try to answer the question - why is megaSun launching another innovative solution after the huge success of the P9 series?

A mysterious cube

There are never too many new products, but in our opinion, the K-series (made up of the K6, K6S, K7, and K7S models) is to fill the gap in the solarium market. It was the lack of modern premium-class devices with smaller dimensions. This does not mean, however, that the K-series is small, we found out about it when we tested the sunbed ourselves. We will come back to this in this review.

Before the K-series was created, megaSun released the famous P9S. They have a lot in common, for. ex… automotive. Do you remember the premiere of the megaSun 7000 Cadillac? It was then, for the first time, that a German manufacturer took inspiration from the automotive industry. The second occasion was the P9 sunbeds designed by Studio F. A. Porsche. With its momentum, megaSun once again took a peek into the automotive world, and this is how the cube shape characteristic of the entire K-series was created, for which Étienne Salomé – a now independent designer formally working for Bugatti Automobiles- was created.

A solarium that shows... you!

When we set up several sunbeds and the K-Model next to each other, we will look at the latter for the longest time. Why? Because first we are intrigued by an unusual shape, and then we will see ... ourselves in it! More precisely - your reflection - on the mirror surface of the housing front. It is decorated with hundreds of LED lights that enhance the impression of depth. It is hard to miss and even harder not to take advantage of it. It is easy to imagine how the visit to the showroom will go when the client notices a cabin with an unusual bed-either first grab the smartphone with a camera or book a session right away.

What about cubature?

Attracting customer attention is one thing, but how do you impress the investor? The answer is simple—size. Size does matter. Especially when we have limited space in our tanning salon and we want as many cabins as possible. K-Series solariums have been designed to reduce the external dimensions as much as possible, and on the other hand, to keep as much space inside the bed as possible. Has it been possible? The depth of the bed is only 127 cm. For comparison, the big brother of the P9 is 150 cm, and models from other manufacturers are often even larger.

model depth difference from K6 / K7
Ergoline Esprit 770 155 cm 28 cm
Luxura Vegaz 9200 154 cm 27 cm
KBL megaSun P9 147 cm 23 cm
Ergoline Affinity 990 155 cm 20 cm
KBL megaSun K6/K7 127 cm       -

Thanks to their construction, K6 and K7 will fit where other solariums cannot. This is a very big advantage of this series, which will certainly interest not only the owners of tanning salons, but also beauty or fitness salons.

But, on the other hand, K-Series are not fit for tall people. And here the K series fares worse. After the dome is closed, there is a moderate amount of space inside. We checked it personally and the distance between the nose and the upper dome is 5 cm shorter than on the Ergoline Prestige 990 and 10 cm less than on the megaSun P9. People with a larger figure may feel some discomfort.

The small space inside, however, has the advantage that the shorter distance of the lamps from the body makes tanning more efficient, which, combined with the number of lamps, guarantees very good tanning results, and this is what customers care about.

Comfort

Despite the limited space, the bed is relatively comfortable. The profile of the couch is gentle and well suited to different body types. The arrangement of the elements that are within easy reach is very good, including:

  • the touch control panel places the phone (all K-Series models have a wireless charger as standard).
  • the emergency switch of the solarium
  • an excellent technical solution is the new ventilation system, which significantly affects the comfort of tanning, which P9 does not have. The new K-Series works very quietly, generating a pleasant air stream.

MegaSun K- How does it tan?

Depending on the model chosen, the K-Series units can be equipped with 42 or 46 low-pressure lamps with a power of up to 200 W, which is more than enough in close proximity to the body. In terms of tanning effects, K is in no way inferior to other solariums. In addition, as many as four face tanners and two shoulder tanners will take care of the desired bronze. In the K6 and K7 versions with high-pressure lamps, and in the K6S and K7S versions with LEDs. The passion for leds, very well known from the P9 series, can be found in the Beauty Booster system. There are over 2,000 red nano LEDs evenly distributed along the entire body to care for the skin. This solution is standard for all K beds. The manufacturer deserves a big plus for this idea.

Devices with the K mark have electronic chokes. If we decide on the version of the solarium with CPI, we will be able to adjust them, which will directly translate into the possibility of full control of the tanning power and energy consumption. We must admit that KBL managed to create an energy-saving sunbed. Both the P9 and K-Series owe their success primarily to LEDs. The most energy-efficient models of the K-Series consume only approx. 11.6–12.2 kW, which is not without significance at current electricity prices. Compared to other tanning beds, an investment in K means considerable savings:

     Energy consumption   difference from K6S
Ergoline Esprit 770
Dynamic Power
16,9 kW 5,3 kW
Luxura Vegaz 9200
Highbrid
15,5 kW 3,9 kW
Ergoline Affinity 990 SLP 14,4 kW 2,8 kW
KBL megaSun P9 hybridSun 14,0 kW 2,4 kW
KBL megaSun P9S hybridSun 12,5 kW 0,9 kW
KBL megaSun K7S 12,2 kW 0,6 kW
KBL megaSun K6S 11,6 kW -

The equipment and price

The equipment and price of the megaSun K6/K7 Given the range of standard equipment on the K-Series, it can be said that megaSun has been quite generous. All K6 models have electronic chokes, shoulder tanner, wireless charger, internal touch control panel, airflow for the face and shoulders, and the aforementioned set of 2000 LEDs-Beauty Booster. The most advantageous are the K7 and K7S variants, in which the standard includes everything that a premium bed should have, and even more:

The audio system also draws attention. In the K-Series, the base speaker is closer to the head, which in combination with the satellites, creates an impression of music space. The sound quality is excellent, like on concerts, which will certainly not escape the attention of customers who appreciate sunbathing with good music. The K-Series also fares very well in terms of price. Compared to the larger models from the P9 collection, cubes are about 20% cheaper.

Summary

Summary - KBL megaSun K-Series, pros and cons KBL managed to launch a very successful solarium, which will surely win the recognition of many customers and salon owners. Finally, the segment of premium beds has been resolved to solve the problem of small spaces, which K owes to both the smaller volume and decorative elements - the "infinity mirror" housing enhances the impression of depth. Despite the smaller space inside, the tanning power deserves a big plus, which with fewer lamps is not inferior to larger solar panels. Taking into account the attractive price, extensive equipment (K7 and K7S) and special skin care solutions, megaSun is rated good with a plus, making this series one of the best tanning devices on the market.
