Applications:
• Monitoring UV Lamp Intensity and Aging
• Instantaneous UV Monitoring in W/m2
• Tanning Lamp Output Regulation
• Solar Intensity Measurement in W/m2
• Window Tint Film Transmission Testing
• Acrylic Protector Transmission Testing
• UV Blocking Capacity Testing of Glasses
Sensor
Silicon Carbide (SiC) Photodiode in hermetically sealed UV glass window. Interference filter blocks UV above the erythemal response as shown in the Spectral Sensitivity Graph.
Meter Operation
To operate your Solarmeter, aim the sensor window located on the top panel of the meter directly at a UV source. Press and hold the button switch on the meter face. For best results, note the distance from which the UV source reading was taken to ensure repeatable results.
Battery operation is viable from 9V down to 6.5V. Below 6.5V, the numbers on the LCD screen will begin to dim, indicating the need to replace the battery. Under typical service load, a standard 9V battery will last approximately 2 years.
Proper Use of Solarmeter® D3 Radiometer
• Use eye protection when checking UV lamps (Goggles providing wrap-around protection are ideal).
• Allow lamps to warm up before taking readings (at least 5 minutes).
• When checking lamp aging, make sure to use the same location and distance to ensure accurate readings.
• Lamps should be replaced when output drops to approximately 70% of their original (new) readings.
• To take a general reading in the center of the tanning bed, place the meter pointing upwards with the canopy closed.
• To take readings in the body position, hold the meter approximately 25 cm above the bench with the canopy closed.
Acrylic Testing
• For acrylic testing, take readings with and without acrylic at a fixed distance.
• When comparing different lamp types, consider that readings are relative rather than absolute.
General
• Do not subject the meter to extremes of temperature, humidity, shocks or dust.
• Use a dry, soft cloth to clean the instrument. Keep the sensor free of oil, dirt, etc.
